The Hilarious Plot of Dance Flick
Dance Flick is a parody movie that was released in 2009 and directed by Damien Dante Wayans. The movie pokes fun at the dance movie genre and features a hilarious plot. The story follows Megan White, a girl from the suburbs who dreams of becoming a dancer. She attends Musical High School, a school filled with talented dancers, singers, and musicians.
The movie starts with Megan auditioning for the school’s popular dance crew, the Musical High Knights. Although she does not make the team, Thomas Uncles, a street dancer who also attends the school, sees her talent and helps her improve her skills. Throughout the movie, Megan and Thomas try to win back the respect of their peers by competing in several dance competitions.
One of the most memorable scenes in Dance Flick is when Megan’s mother confesses that she used to be a dancer and they have an epic dance battle in their living room. Another hilarious scene is when Thomas teaches Megan how to “dance battle” on the streets of New York City.
The Cast of Characters
Dance Flick features an impressive cast of actors who perfectly embody their characters. Shoshana Bush portrays Megan White perfectly as she brings an incredible amount of energy to every scene she’s in. Damon Wayans Jr., son of one of the Wayans family members who produced and wrote this film’s script, stars as Thomas Uncles – Megan’s sidekick/bodyguard/dance teacher.
In addition to Shoshana and Damon Jr., several other notable actors appear in Dance Flick. Essence Atkins stars as Charity, the leader of the Musical High Knights dance crew, while Affion Crockett plays A-Con, Thomas’s cousin. David Alan Grier also appears in the movie as Sugar Bear, Megan’s father.

For example, there’s a scene where Thomas teaches Megan how to dance using household items like a broom and mop. The duo takes it to another level when they incorporate a toilet plunger into their routine. Additionally, there are several references to popular dance movies such as Step Up, You Got Served and Save The Last Dance.
Cinematography and Special Effects
Dance Flick features incredible cinematography and special effects that make each scene come alive. The dance sequences are choreographed flawlessly and shot beautifully – showcasing the dancers’ talent perfectly. It’s clear that every little detail was taken care of when it came to making this movie look visually stunning.
In one particularly memorable scene, Megan and Thomas perform a dance number on top of motorcycles that are moving at high speeds. The camera work during this scene is impressive as it captures every move made by both performers while maintaining an intense pace throughout.
The Soundtrack That Gets Your Feet Moving
Another great aspect of Dance Flick is its soundtrack. The movie features a mix of popular pop and hip hop songs that perfectly complement the dance sequences. The music choices for this movie are spot on, and it’s hard not to groove along with the beats.
There’s a memorable dance sequence set to Tiffany Evans’ “I’ll Be There,” and another one that features the classic 90s tune “All That She Wants” by Ace of Base.
