Suspiria: A movie that takes you on a wild ride
When it comes to horror movies, there are few that really get under my skin. But “Suspiria” is definitely one of them. From the very beginning, this movie had me on the edge of my seat, and I couldn’t look away.
A dark and twisted plot
The plot of “Suspiria” centers around a young American dancer who enrolls in a prestigious dance academy in Germany. But as she becomes more involved with the academy and its staff, she begins to uncover dark secrets about the organization.
The story takes some unexpected twists and turns, and I was constantly on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what was going to happen next. The tension throughout the movie was palpable, and it definitely kept me engaged.
A talented cast
The cast of “Suspiria” is made up of some incredibly talented actors. Dakota Johnson gives an absolutely chilling performance as the lead character, Susie. Tilda Swinton is also fantastic in her multiple roles throughout the film.
But perhaps one of the best performances comes from Mia Goth, who plays Sara, Susie’s friend at the academy. Her portrayal of a young woman desperately searching for answers is both heart-wrenching and terrifying.
A haunting score
The score of “Suspiria” is absolutely haunting. Composer Thom Yorke (of Radiohead fame) created a soundtrack that perfectly captures the eerie and unsettling tone of the movie.
The music really adds to the overall atmosphere of the film, and it’s something that has stuck with me since watching it.
Controversial scenes
One thing that has caused some controversy around “Suspiria” are its gruesome scenes. There are definitely moments in the movie that are difficult to watch, and some critics have accused the film of being gratuitous in its violence.
Personally, I didn’t find the violence to be gratuitous. It was definitely intense, but I felt like it served a purpose within the story.
An important message
One thing that really resonated with me about “Suspiria” was its message about power and control. The movie takes a hard look at how people in positions of power (especially men) can abuse that power and manipulate those around them.
It’s a message that feels particularly relevant today, and I appreciated the way that the movie tackled it in such a thoughtful way.
A unique aesthetic
The cinematography in “Suspiria” is absolutely stunning. Director Luca Guadagnino creates a world that is both beautiful and horrifying at the same time.
The use of color is particularly striking, with bright, bold hues juxtaposed with dark, foreboding shadows. It’s a visually stunning movie that really draws you into its world.
A divisive film
“Suspiria” is definitely not a movie for everyone. Its graphic violence and unsettling imagery will certainly turn some people off.
But for those who can handle it, it’s an incredibly rewarding film. It’s thought-provoking, intense, and visually stunning.
Final thoughts
All in all, I thought “Suspiria” was an incredible movie. It’s been a long time since a horror film has affected me so deeply.
While it’s certainly not for everyone, I would highly recommend this movie to anyone who is a fan of the horror genre. It’s a unique and unforgettable experience that will stay with you long after the credits roll.
